We would like to inform you that support of AVG 7.5 FREE edition was discontinued on April 30th, 2009. This applies to both virus and program updates.
AVG 7.5 Free Edition is still working, however no new updates are being downloaded. When the AVG virus database is outdated we cannot ensure that AVG 7.5 Free Edition will protect your computer agains the newest threats.
If you are still running AVG 7.5 Free Edition version, we strongly recommend that you upgrade to AVG 8.5 Free Edition. The upgrade to AVG 8.5 Free Edition is available free of charge.
1. How to install AVG 8.5 Free edition
In order to check whether your system is compatible with AVG 8.5 Free Edition please see Supported Platforms. Steps describing upgrade to AVG 8.5 Free Edition can be found in FAQ 1250.
2. How to uninstall AVG 7.5 Free Edition
In case you wish to uninstall AVG 7.5 Free Edition from your computer please proceed as described in FAQ 625.
To install AVG 8.5 Free Edition over the current AVG 7.5 Free Edition please proceed as follows:
- Please make sure your operating system is supported by AVG 8.5 Free (see FAQ 1304 for more details).
- Download the latest AVG 8.5 Free Edition installation file from our website.
- When you are prompted, please do not open this file directly from the Internet, but click the "Save" button and choose a location, where the installation file should be stored (we recommend saving the file to the Desktop).
- Reboot your computer.
- Close all running applications, locate the downloaded AVG 8.5 Free Edition installation file (it has a four color square icon and its name starts with AVG_...) and launch the installation.
- Follow the installation wizard to install the new AVG 8.5 Free Edition(previous version of AVGwill be automatically removed during the installation process).
- If a restart is required after the initial configuration, please reboot your computer to finish the installation.
Open the directory with AVG Free Edition installed in and run the SETUP.EXE file or download the current installation file of AVG Free Edition from here and run it to start installation process. A window with following options will be displayed during the installation process:
Add/Remove Components - choose if you want to add/remove some AVG Free Edition component or reinstall the entire AVG Free Edition program.
Repair installation - this option repairs or reinstalls missing or damaged components of AVG Free Edition.
Uninstall - this option removes the AVG Free Edition program from your PC
