We provide four binary installation packages for four currently supported Linux distributions - Mandriva, Red Hat, SUSE, Debian/Ubuntu.

Necessary libraries:

  • pygtk2.0 >= 2.0.0
  • pygtk2.0-libglade >= 2.0.0
  • python >= 2.2.2
  • libc.so.6

Please use AVG installation packages as all other RPM/DEB packages to install the AVG Free for Linux. Please log on as the 'root' user and run the installation command. A registration script should be automatically activated upon the installation. Then you can run the AVG Free for Linux by 'avggui' command:

The particular installations could be done this way :

Note: version and version_of_avi depends on current release version

Mandriva:

$su
#rpm -i avg75flm-r{version}-a{version_of_avi}.i386.rpm
#/opt/grisoft/avggui/bin/avggui_update_licinfo.sh
#exit
$avggui &

Red Hat:

#rpm -i avg75flr-r{version}-a{version_of_avi}.i386.rpm
#/opt/grisoft/avggui/bin/avggui_update_licinfo.sh
#exit
$avggui &

SUSE:

$su
#rpm -i avg75fls-r{version}-a{version_of_avi}.i386.rpm
#/opt/grisoft/avggui/bin/avggui_update_licinfo.sh
#exit
$avggui &

Debian / Ubuntu:

$ su
# dpkg -i avg75fld-r{version}-a{version_of_avi}.i386.deb
# /opt/grisoft/avggui/bin/avggui_update_licinfo.sh
# exit
$ avggui &

It is not possible to use AVG Free for Linux on server machines, because it is supposed for home users only. The server license number is required if you plan to use AVG on a Linux server.
